Engine swap?

I haven't seen anyone swapping a bigger engine in the 401 frame yet. I suppose they just buy the 701 which I've read doesn't weigh much more.

You'd have to cut the frame and weld some metal to support the physically larger engine. It will look ghetto. Just buy a bigger bike

It doesn't have to look "ghetto", that's a failing of the fabricator.

How are you going to achieve this without making it look ghetto? A small frame that was designed around a small engine. It's like putting a v6 into a civic.

What engine do you think I'm trying to fit in the 401 frame?

I admit I come from the car world, but swapping engines and keeping the same transmission is common there. I wonder if the 701 engine uses the same transmission as the 401, in which case maybe you can simplify the swap.

Also if the engine is part of the frame it would take some creativity to adapt the mounting points and still have rigidity. The donor bike would also have to have the engine as part of the frame.

Honestly I don’t see it being worth it for this model and that’s why people are not doing it.
I have fun with my Svart and all but it’s not the most remarkable platform I’ve seen.
Unless I had a frame sitting around to play with I don’t see myself spending the time on it.

It would have to be the Miata or Civic SI of motorcycles, which I’m not entirely sure it is.

Why….
The engine is the best thing about this bike. If anything I would’ve thought to put the engine in a bigger (possibly older 80s - 90s) frame, not a larger engine in this tiny bike. It simply does not make sense to even consider it. Just buy 701.

Agreed

These transmissions as are integral to the engine.

I disagree. I'd much rather have the 500EXC, or even my CRF450 engine in this frame. Both are superior to the Bajaj built 373cc unit.
And that's why I asked if people just buy the 701...

The size of the engine is not suited for the curvature of the frame. This is why you've have to make some heavy modifications all for the reason that you didn't want to get the 701 in the first place
