DRT67 401 SVITPILEN upgrades

After reading a lot of interesting things on this forum, I think it is now time and fair to present you my bike and the upgrades I made myself

I'm Yannick, born in 1982, former racer and hillclimb champion, living in Strasbourg France

I bought this 401 Vitpilen end of april 2023. 2020 model with only 6000km for the previous and first owner.

the bike was sold like this :
- LeoVince LV-10 exhaust
- Husqvarna bar end mirrors
- modification from Vitpilen to Svartpilen handelbars because his back was hurting too much while riding



Luckily, he gave my all the standard parts with the bike with no extra cost

My first modification was to invert the mirrors to have them on the top side of the handelbar, in order to have a better view

My first target is to have a bike like I want to make my first roadtrip mid of may 2023, approx 3 weeks after buying it !

As the tank cover is not metalic and I didn't want to search and buy the Husqvara tank bag and support that is too small for me, I found a GIVI tankbag with tanklock

5 minutes to install, very easy







Nice solution, easy to remove

I also took the time to install the brake disk lock on the frame, using the upper bolt from the sprocket protection

Just remember not to use the tanklock support as an ashtray

In order to have a powersupply, I found out that there are 3 possibilities standard on the wiring harness ! Really nice for such a bike

So I installed a USB connector on the accessory connection on the front right side of the frame. This one is powered only when the bike is on. The otherone on the same location provides you power, even without the key on the bike

About 15 minutes to install it nicely

Then, I decided to relocate this ugly horn, like I've done on my HONDA CB1000R that I sold 2 weeks ago, by using only the standard parts





I just bend the steal plate holder from the horn to install it horizontaly in the frame

Then I needed a solution to fix my big travelbag on the passenger seat

So I just used some left aluminium part I had at home to build this

Finaly, 2 days ago, I imagined a DIY licence plate holder, a little bit lighter than the standard one

And always by using what I have at home, so the standard light and red reflector

I choose also to fix this to the turn signals

And now, in about 1/2 hour, I'm ready to go for my first trip to the Swiss and French Alps for about 3 and a half days and arround 1200 km

So that was my 4 days road trip accross Jura and Alpe mountains in France and Switzerland

Arround 1200 km to test this little beast !

I had some company from my friend with his Buell 1125. At the end, he just saw my ass getting away in the alpes curves This bike is so light that it don't need extra power to go away...

But my biggest worry was the rear tyre at the end of day 3. Ok, it wasn't new when I started the trip but on other bikes I had, it was easy to come back without stress.

Now time for some service ! I finished the trip with 7500 km



New tyres : I switch from the Metzeler to my favorite Michelin Pilot Power 2CT
New chain and sprocket : AFAM is nice with gold color chain

I also removed the kind of "heat protection" under the engine, next to the exhaust pipe... It was always scratching the floor in the Alpes curves

I love your resourcefulness., talent, and abilities.

I went to Albertville in 1997. I was in France to watch the Tour de France.

So, I found an other option for a "fly screen"

Always loved to have some carbon parts on a bike.

The idea is to cut the lower part tho follow the upper line of the front light.
