Not pretty but on longer explorations essential, I'm wandering the back roads of Yorkshire and the Dales, and all the small service-stations are either shut, or turned into a hand car wash. three quarters through every trip the 'low fuel' warning comes on, didn't fancy carrying fuel in a back pack, so trialling one of these off a Chinese website, took a while to arrive and carriage was a big proportion of the price, but quality is fine

That looks like a copy of the Rotopax system. I've thought of adding one similar.

Decided it looked awful, so switched it to the rear handle, much easier and looks better too

I kinda prefer the side mount. Might handle better lower too... ?

Did wonder whether it would make the bike feel top-heavy, but if anything it felt steadier, no obvious effect on handling but a slightly meatier feel with 3.7 kilograms plus the plastic tank's own mass, that high. I got it serviced a few weeks ago, dealer loaned a Yamaha XSR, disliked the bike (soggy suspension) despite lovely power unit, but the Yam is 189 kilos and the extra 39 over my Svart made her much steadier on the motorway near trucks buffeting. Reason for changing tank location was the looks, plus easier to make the carbon sheet clamping plates.

Sounds good. I'm just wary after having some trouble with a top box I mounted on an FZ1. That definitely had some negatives on the handling. But different bikes react differently and your weight isn't much behind the rear axle. So, cool!

Another mount option would be the left side passenger footpeg mount. That will balance the exhaust on the right side for appearance. I would not be concerned about the weight up high. 3 kgs could be a few books in a backpack.

I just ordered one of these guys on Amazon and I'm trying to figure out how you made a clean attachment. Did you drill an extra hole in that plastic mounting thingy to move it farther forward? And is that a PVC pipe, hugging it from behind?

Anything you'd do different? ( mounting it in that specific position )

I like the idea but should we not worry about the engine heat around there? I have a 2019, Austria made Svartpilen and the exhaust comes really close to the frame. More heat there in my case.
