While exiting a highway at 100km/h I wondered why I couldn't find the lever to downshift... Somehow I lost the original screw/nut at speed so I was left with the shifter hanging (see second picture) and stuck in 6th gear.
I have since replaced and secured with Loctite. You may want to check yours!

Not good.
It might pay u to check other important components for movement. If necessary reloctite (where appropriate)......retorque...........better safe than sorry.
Also check to see if there have been any safety recalls on your bike.....there were a few on my 701 but they had all been done.

What happened to the rubber boot that is supposed to be covering that end link? On mine there is no way for the screw/bolt to get lost as the rubber boot will keep it from falling out even if it comes undone.

Oh! I don’t know… I’m not sure I remember what it looked like or if I even had it. Would you mind sharing a picture of yours?

this thread actually made me check mine and i found mine was loose as well, had to tighten the bolt clamping the shift linkage onto the shifter

Good point, thanks!

Did you have it in for the 1000km check? If not, I’d recommend checking all the bolts on the bike yourself. If one is loose, there’s a risk something else is loose.

Maybe not all years they had the boots. Mine is a 2022 and they are on both ends of the shift rodView attachment 6385
Thanks for sharing the image. I feel like the boot looks familiar, but I'm honestly not sure if I had it or not (I only recently bought the bike, used). Even if my bike did have it, I have no idea how the boot would have feel off anyway...

I'm not sure, I bought the bike used at 1800km, so I'm not certain on what they did. I will have to double-check the paper work. Thank you, I will do a thorough check!

Happened to me once this past summer. I was in town traffic and it threw me… especially considering my clutch sensor was acting up at the time and I often had to start in neutral. Fortunately I was in 3rd gear, so I was able to takeoff from a stop (although not easily) and make it home. What was usually a 30 min ride took about an hour unable to get above 40mph.

Ohhh at least you were able to move from a stand-still! Did you fix the clutch sensor?

@Zep , I met someone today with a 2022 model and his had the rubber boot. Mine is a 2021, so I'm thinking they added that as an improvement to the next iteration of the bike. I checked the photos from when I first purchased the bike and the boot is definitely not on there...

I have a 2022 that did NOT come with a rubber boot. I had to replace the the whole rod and pivot after two years because of rust.
