Hello everyone,
My first post
I have a 701 Svartpilen
I'm looking to change my grips to the motogadget offering in an eventual transition to their small button type handlebar controls (this may or may not be possible). First I was just going to swap the grips out and leave the button controls for another time. In my research I've been stumped as to whether this is possible with the current ride by wire throttle tube. I naively assumed I could detach the current grip and slip something else on,

1: I'm wrong on this, correct?
2: if I need a new throttle tube my options are limited to
https://www.bellissimoto.com/parts/...ly-By-Wire-Throttle-Tube-KTM-Husqvarna-Type-2 ?
3: if I'm able to install that throttle tube then I should be able to slip these over it?

I emailed motogadget and they weren't sure, nor were my local dealers, so it's seems I've delved into some masonic secrecy around what I thought was a pretty simple project.

Any wisdom would be appreciated.

I think you’ll have issues if you try to do new controls, the potentiometer that controls the ride by wire is inside that switch housing. I don’t thing changing the grips will cause any problems as long as the part inside the switch gear stays the same.

Look at the instructions to install the throttle spacers to remove slack to see what’s in there.

This is what I needed to see thank you.
That pesky "function" getting in the way of "form" again.
It looks like the switch housing stabilises the potentiometer so I couldn't ride with it exposed with the new switches beside it towards the center of the bar.
Back to the grip, can I still use the current throttle tube and remove the grip, I'm not seeing how they would come apart, is it a reverse thread and I would just have to give it some force clockwise to unseat it, or is a new tube mandatory in this case.

I've done that to bicycle and ski pole grips, I'll give it a go!
The throttle tube isn't smooth on these bikes, you need to peel the grips of starting at the switch assembly, or cut them off. You can then smooth the ridges with sandpaper or a file.

I’ve removed the grip and replaced it with heated grips using the existing throttle tube, as mentioned, just remove the ridges from the tube.

Good advice all around, I may look at the machined throttle tube and save the current setup. I've already got a box of parts I've swapped out anyhow. I wish the stock controls were a little less ungainly, I guess svelte wasn't in the design brief for this area.

I thought my 701 controls were big before I got a 401, they seem to be about twice as big and make the 701 controls look really refined.

I know that a smaller version of the left-hand controls is available for ktm/huskys.
I can't remember the part# or any details on how to purchase it, but I know that it is a widespread upgrade among the ADV crowd since it frees some handlebar space to add other controls/buttons.
I don't know if the right-hand version of that control exists.

I'll try and find those controls thanks. Originally it was an aesthetic decision, but looking at what the motogadget m blue can do, I'd like to see if I can incorporate more features I would use, and, eliminate the clutter. I've been sold on a vision I may not need, but what are dreams anyhow.

The big challenge of the m.unit would be to be able to integrate it with the OEM dash to be able to read the indicators. If you are willing to let go of the OEM dash and live with what that implies it seems possible to use an m.unit even with the OEM controls.

And this is where it gets murky, bad winners site will be up and running to sell within a week, I'm looking at the dash option, but if the dash is getting the relay and fuse info, does it care where it's from. The only thing I see on the m unit that doesn't jive is the kickstand kills the ignition. I have yet to find a shop locally that knows the score and is willing to guide me, so it'll remain basic with grips and controls. The unit may have to be for a frame up build, which isn't in the cards yet

Goodluck with badwinners… i paid for a dash in october/november 2023, they did send a dew small items but no dash.
After an initial delay update in november, never heard anything from them, no dash, no money, no answers, they still don‘t
The man is a fraud imho…. No decency to answer,. To be real; About €600 fraud..

I'm hearing you, I gave up on them, sorry to hear about that, it's unfortunate. I really did want that bracket for the lower covers.

Well, i can help you with that maybe…
As i have one brandnew and decided not to use it, since a cat delete (with an Arrow cat replacement pipe) has no real (almost nil) power advantage we saw on our dyno…

So the bracket and mount parts are/is not needed…
But tbh.. shipment from europe to canada is not cheap…

I have lots of experience with BW. I recommend NOT doing business with them, with emphasis. Good luck.
