I’ve done all service to my 23 svart since I bought it new in nov 23 except valves, I paid a local shop to do them at about 11k miles. I replaced the clutch myself and changed oil and filters at about 13k. Well it was time for new tires and due for service so I just took my oil and filter to my local shop who’s always done good work for me in the past, what little I don’t do myself, so instead of just having him do the tires I told him to go ahead and do the service for me while it was there and do an inspection and ride it etc just to make sure i wasn’t overlooking anything and try and get ahead of anything. Well he called and said that there were “brassy metal shavings” in the oil. And that was usually a very bad sign.
I didn’t get a picture or any more details about whether they were loose in the oil or on the screen or what. I plan on running it a few hundred miles and then changing oil and inspecting filters myself.
I haven’t noticed any issues riding other than the occasional false nuetral when I’ve been hard on the throttle, but the bike does see a lot of commuter type riding. I’m making a vow to stop running it hard and prolonged on the interstate 85mph when I’m running late for something. I shouldn’t have done that as much as I have.
I know it’s not a lot of information to go off of, but what’s yalls opinion? Is this catastrophic? Is this motor destined for death soon? Should I trade it in while it still runs ? When I replaced my old clutch it was basically all the way worn out…. could this just be old clutch material that was hiding somewhere and didn’t get cleared when I changed the clutch plates? Or could I have gotten my sequencing wrong or done something wrong when I did the clutch?
