I've not posted for a long time so thought I'd share my favourite picture of the almost finished project. I've recently been contemplating replacing the 701 but every time I go into the garage and see it just sitting there I think what would I actually buy that would be a fitting replacement ? Definitely the prettiest and most capable bike I've ever owned.

Damn, man... I feel the same way. Last year I wanted to sell my Svartpilen 701, but every time someone asked about the motorcycle, it was as if I was sabotaging the sale to some extent. I want another motorcycle that is a little more comfortable for long trips, but I can't sell this one. So I think I'll buy another one and keep this one too. There are two things that bother me about this motorcycle...the dashboard and the fact that it has only one front brake disc (from an aesthetic point of view). As for the dashboard, I hope that those developing Projectpilen will complete the project, as it looks quite promising. But to add a second front brake disc for the spoked wheels, I see that there are no solutions other than custom parts. Either way, the Svart/Vit 701 has something that makes you fall in love with it every time you see it 😁

I agree with the dash display, it's a poor effort to say the least. I was actually considering swapping out the full wiring loom and dash from a KTM 690 duke but it's a lot of work. I seriously doubt that anybody will ever make a new display for a bike that's been out of production for so long and when new sold in relatively low numbers but I'd definitely have one if they did. As for the twin disc setup it would look very trick but unless you plan taking it on track it'd be overkill on a bike that weighs so little. I find the brake setup more than adequate for fast road use even with the extra weight of a passenger occasionally.

Great transformation!
For my part, I'm working on my 701 with the aim of making it look like the original prototype.
I've almost finished installing a second disc. Now I'm working on opening up the air box. Could you tell me how you handled the crankcase breather (the pipe that go into the air box), please?
I'm finding a lot of conflicting information online (venting with a filter, catch can, connection to the intake).
Thanks for your help!

I used 2 small individual filters and ran it like this all through the summer with no issues. I didn't see any need for a catch can however if your engine has a lot of miles on it and is breathing heavy oil vapour then you may need one. When I get a chance I'll take a couple of pictures for you.

Hope this shows my setup clear enough with the filters being black it's difficult to show 👍

Looks great! Agree on it being the prettiest, every time I walk out to it from the store it looks good. No matter what angle.

Been in the works for almost 2 years. But they just gave an update

Let's hope it comes to fruition, I'd love one of those tucked away in my fairing 👍. Be interesting to see what the unit price will be, it's very much a niche market.
Yeah . It literally was just one guy who started it as a pet project. Because badwinners went out of business
