Air Filter 701

Today I slapped'd in a HFA6301.
It was very interesting.

Initially I noticed was that it was quieter.
Then I noticed was that there must have been a slight change in the resonance effect of the airbox because the power has shifted slightly...

All good, until I tried to make the fancy quickshifter pop noise... and it sounded weak 😱😱😱

First thing soon as I got back t' tha g'rage was put the LX925/1 back inside.

So, tip to those who want less noise - HFA6301

After a ride with a brand new LX925/1 (stock) the loud quick shifter pop noise returned and the power shifted back to where it was...

Now expanding on that, when changing from paper brands, a noticeable difference is there, so has anyone noticed a difference with a k&n or twinair?

Sure... the HP will stay the same... but its the way it builds power which could be interesting... I would expect the least resistance to cause the biggest change resonance rpm and create a very noticeable shift in the power.

Go get one, buy all different available filters you can find.... 🤦‍♂️

(Serious, you won't find a difference between one air filter and the other. Remember this is the same filter as the 1090 and/or 1290 Adventure. It's simply not a limiting component in the intake...)

I just bought a K&N because it was cheaper in the long run than replacing paper filters 🤷🏻‍♂️
I notice no difference whatsoever.

In fact, for the 401 I did try every filter that you can buy.

(All of them filtered air except one of them, which made the airbox fill with a layer of fine particles)

As far as restrictions go, there is no concern.

I only wonder if there is a change in resonance which moves the powerband to a more desirable range.

Example: with filter "a" power wheelie starts in 2nd at 6000rpm, next filter power wheelie starts at 7000rpm, next filter at 5000 rpm,...

I started with lid, removed the lid later on.
I think I'm not very sensitive to changes like that.
I don't notice a difference in riding with a full or empty tank. Not just on the Vit, but never have on previous bikes either.
I notice a difference in lid or no lid obviously. But a difference in chain or air filter, nope.

Yea, for me its not really about more power, its about better delivery of the power.

I may test the K&N, or the Twin Air from KTM for the 1090/1190 if I come across em on sale.

Both look to be of similar price / value.

Thats right, just think about going to your local Save Mart, when they ask "Paper or Plastic" its the exact same as the Stock vs. K&N...
Better delivery of the groceries.

Duuuudde

When you give a musician a guitar, whats the first thing they do?

Turn the little nobs on the end of that puppy.

Just kidding.

After some time on the dyno, it was apparent that only minor changes to the air filter media / configuration also show consistent & measurable differences.

Anyone else done any testing so far?
