Yes, some ICE engines can have their ignition system reprogrammed along with the ability to store different, subsequent ”fuel maps”.
 
On another note, while looking at fuel additives for cleaning (in lieu of performance) I have had repeated positive results with Chevron Techron. Cleans valves/intake ports, remove carbon on piston-ring deposit(s), eliminates auto mechanics from selling me intake cleaning services (swabs clean when administered at every oil change).
