I noticed at the clay-prototype they fitted 320mm brake discs instead of the stock 300mm discs.
Most likely the 320mm Duke 890-R discs will also fit the 801...

Here some more information and some part numbers.
The 801 and the Duke 790 share the same 300mm brake discs and the same brake pads.
Some people already did the conversion and upgraded the Duke 790 with some Duke 890-R 320mm discs.
So most likely it should be identical with the 801.

801 / Duke 790 parts:
300mm brake discs: 64109060000
brake pads: 63613030000

Duke 890 R parts:
320mm brake discs: 7600916000033

The 801, Duke 790 and Duke 890 R share the same ABS / phonic wheel.
Phonic wheel, front: 76042020000

To mount the calipers 10mm longer caliper screws and 10mm spacers are required.
The screws are M10x1.25x65 insead of M10x1.25x55
They are available from KTM.
AH collar screw M10x1.25x65SS: 0035100659

Instead of the 320mm KTM (Galfer) brake discs and KTM brake pads also Brembo parts can be used.
That's what I would do to improve the performace of the brakes.

Don't get me wrong, the stock brakes are definitely good; but in my opinion they could be (even) better; and since I had been very satisfied with the Brembo Oro brake discs together with the Brembo sintered brake pads on other bikes, I would also install them on the 801.

Brembo parts:
Brembo Oro 320mm brake discs: 78B408B0
Brembo sintered brake pads: 07BB19SA

All information should definitely be checked again!

Semi expensive upgrade. I had minor complaints when pushing the bike the first 1000km, but the brake pads have now broken in, or I’m riding slower. I have no complaints at this point.

The better is the enemy of the good... ;)

I put ktm adventure 1290 320mm disks on my 701 that has the 790 fork lowers. I used two sets of the caliper spacers and bolts for the 2020 vitpilen 701. Still had a little interference mainly when hitting bumps because the rotor was that close to the calipers.

I Added a washer to each spacer and now it’s gtg. I am using a lot of different parts from different bikes tho, I would just say check the clearances really well when using the spacers because they run really close. Also, a lot of ktm models have interchangeable brake rotors.

If your going to go through the work of changing the rotors though, I would change the calipers to at least some brembo m50s. I feel that would be a bigger upgrade than the larger rotors and cheaper.

To me the combination of Brembo discs and Brembo pads would be the bigger upgrade.
The 320mm instead of the stock 300mm would be a nice addition.
Agree some M50, Stylema,... calipers would also be a nice to have addition, but definitely not cheaper.

Used Brembo M50s usually are cheaper than rotors, about $200-300. I have a set of like new brembo monoblock calipers and pads I picked up for $150 off a Ducati 1100 scrambler. I got them because I was going to buy the 801 svart, if I pull the trigger on a 801 vitpilen I’ll throw them on it.

The galfer rotors that come on the 890 are good too, I replaced the brembo rotors I was using on the vitpilen with them and they bite really good. I think they have a higher amount of carbon in the steel than the brembos because they rust a lot easier.

I have heard, that brake pads will fit from Duke 890R and will brake the bike a bit better. Is that right? I am not planning the 320mm conversion, but some slight better brake power will make me happy.

From my research the Duke 790 and the 801 share the same brake pads; the Duke 890 R brake pads are different (different shape); they will not fit.
I have always had very good experiences with the sintered Brembo brake pads.

Today I testfitted a disc and a pair of pads; so far everything fits fine.
I'm still waiting for the longer screws and the caliper spacers; I should receive them next week.

Out of curiosity I've put the discs on a scale.
I was surprised; the 300mm Galfer is 1858g, while the 320mm Brembo is 1620g; that's a weight reduction of 476g (rotating mass).

Today I testfitted the caliper spacers; fitment and clearance are fine; now will add some black to the spacers and afterwards the final assembling.
