I was at the Rock Store on Sunday in the Santa Monica Mountains in the vicinity of Malibu.

A friend pulled up on a new Husqvarna 701 Supermoto. He previously owned a 2019 Svartpilen 401.

I asked him how he liked the 701. He surprised me by saying he liked the Svart better. He said the problem with the 701 is the weight distribution between the wheels, too much on the rear, not enough on the front. Keep in mind that the roads here are tight and twisty.

I suggested that he slide the triple clamps down. My neighbor just had the dealer slide the triple clamps down one full inch on his BMW R1250R and he loves the result.

The 701 owner is a great rider. He's passed me in the twisties on his 401 on a few occasions and I had no chance of staying with him. He said he got about 1800 miles on a set of tires for the 401.

His 401 met it's demise when he took it in to a dealer for a clutch repair at 35k miles, HARD miles. When the work was done he picked it up and noticed there was no oil pressure. The dealer assured him that it was ok. He was out riding the twisties and the motor seized. He's suing.

I can imagine there’s a big difference in weight distribution. I own a 401 and borrowed a KTM 890 SMT when the bike was in for service. The SMT felt very high and wasn’t to my liking at all in corners. It was crazy fast compared to the 401 though.

It’s the same with mountain bikes. If you are used to one bike, then try another one, it can feel very strange. I’m guessing the 701 requires more leaning on the front than the 401.

There's a huge range of geometries available on mountain bikes.

This guy knows a lot about it.

I'm blessed to have both; 22 svart 401 and 23 701 sm. Not sure what you're friend is talkin about. The 701 is by far a better bike in almost every regard, imo.
