Today I rented a 2022 Husqvarna Norden 901 and rode approximately 260 km, using only about half a tank of fuel. There was a lot of traffic and congestion, especially on the way back to return the motorcycle.
Before returning the bike, I stopped to fill the tank. When I opened the fuel cap, I was shocked by what happened: the cap released with extremely high pressure, almost like an explosion, and gasoline sprayed everywhere. It covered my jacket and mobile phone, damaged the camera mount, and left the windscreen cloudy/opaque.
I have never experienced anything like this before. My immediate concern was that the motorcycle could catch fire, so I quickly used water to wash away as much of the spilled gasoline as possible.
I don't know exactly what caused the pressure buildup, but this was clearly not normal and could have been extremely dangerous. From other reports I have seen, possible causes may include a malfunctioning tank ventilation system, a blocked or kinked tank vent hose, an issue with the EVAP canister or related lines, or improper fuel-cap venting.
This incident should be taken seriously and investigated, because a pressurized fuel tank releasing gasoline onto the rider and motorcycle presents an obvious fire and safety risk.
Did anyone had the same problem?
