Hey all, a friend has a 2007 Husky SM610 with only 2100 miles. The bike belonged to his brother in law, who passed away in 2009 and bike has been sitting in the garage since then. The bike looks brand new. My friend rebuilt the carb, changed the oil, flushed the brakes, installed new fuel lines and put in a new battery and the bike is supposed to run really well. I saw it last night, but didn't have time to take it for a ride. Price is $4400, with no room to negotiate. I know I'll need new tires.

I've had a 2008 KTM 690smc for a couple years and am tired of dealing with the headaches of the crappy fuel injection, so am looking for something different. I was originally looking at a newer Duke or SM 690, but that's alot more money.

Any input on what's good and bad on theses bikes? Are parts easy to get via KTM dealers?

Thanks!

Sounds like a good buy. I have a TE630 and haven't had any issues getting parts from KTM. I just provide part numbers for what I needed and they ordered it.

Just took the SM610 out for a 45 minute ride on twisty roads and really like it! It's similar to the KTM 690SMC, but there are some significant differences. The 690 feels heavier and seems to have more torque and overall more power. The 690 is better on the freeway, with a little better wind deflection and more power at around 80mph. The 610 is quicker through the gears, and feels like a lighter and more agile bike (although specs say it's heavier by 8lbs). The 610 rides smoother and more flickable on the tight twisties and rough/bumpy roads, which is alot of what I ride in the Sierra foothills.

The specs for the 610: 53hp, 37 ft-lb torque, 313 lbs.

Specs for 690: 63hp, 48 ft-lbs torque, 305 lbs.

I noticed the difference in power, but it wasn't a huge difference and the superior handling made up for it. Also, the 690 has stock exhaust and the 610 has a Vance and Hines exhaust, which may reduce the 610 weight.

I'm pretty light at 150 lbs, so It's possible that the difference in handling is lighter springs in the 610 and smoother suspension overall, as the 610 has 2000 miles and my 690 has 20,000 miles.

I think I'm gonna buy the husky and sell the KTM 690!
