I used the Shorai LFX Battery - LFX18A1 which has a very nice kit of rigid foam stick on padding to mimic the original battery size. Used it on a couple of bikes, very slick. This may be overkill of a battery for the 701, but the electronics on this bike does not like marginal batteries.

It is obnoxious starting up in front of folks - I had a first year BMW K75S that didn't have the piston rings pinned, and when you left it on the sidestand for too long (leaning towards the heads), you would get a big blue cloud of somoke on startup for a 30 seconds or so. Very embarrassing...

Here in California there are a lot of sport bikes with under seat lic. plates - not a problem with the police.. If you get stopped for something else, you might get a "fixit ticket".
