Well, I took a different route.
In my opinion it sounds and performs even better than without the lid. Unfortunately no dyno numbers.
Maybe interesting for someone searching for more torque and factory look.

I read in a German forum that some people just mounted the original lid with some space below (e.g. nuts or bushings combined with longer screws). Regarding the feedback this should improve the midrange torque like no lid. 🤷🏻

I tried that raised lid too. Almost not visible, but the result was too noisy for my taste. I preferred a more channeled airflow to avoid unnecessary turbulence in the airbox as much as possible. Many have reported a higher fuel consumption with an open airbox. With this additional snorkel I couldn’t recognize any difference.
In terms of performance extensive dyno testing would be needed and I don’t have access to a dyno.

the problem is, nobody knows where the sweet spot is..
only pirate racing published a video, that shows some gains without lid and some minor gains with some holes drilled in the lid.. this is all we know

imo it has more grim without the lid, but it has such a disturbing sound (and i am one of those earplug riders) that i dont wanna ride it this way..

I personally love the intake induction roar with the cover off so it was a win win for me. In concert with the large catalytic converter acting as a resonator it helps reduce the noticeable single cylinder exhaust pop and blend it together so it doesn’t sound awful like a 4 stroke dirt bike.

xlite 802 RR i take ear plugs, because of wind noises.. over 90 km/h there is no vitpilen only wind..

BUT, i rode without lid only in combination with my open cage.. maybe the original cage produces a lovely sound 🤷‍♂️

next time i try foamy and without lid and original cage..

Without the lid I had the impression that the intake roar is transmitted to the seat. In my opinion the intake roaring drowns out the sound from the Akra. With the snorkel there is still plenty of roar. It starts at higher revs and sings a harmonic duet with the exhaust🙃 In my ears the engine sounds very cultivated as soon as you push it. There is no best band in the world, everyone has a different music taste.;)

Excellent point brought up by @Vatte

The 802rr is very good rated, but for noise level / wind noise level it scores not so good.
