So after a bit of encouragement:

I have the feeling this whole exercise is more philosophical than practical, and a justification just to spend money. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I wanted to post up some pipes I would definately consider interesting.

Firstly, the "not available" Full Black.

Not equipping the gp screen on the back for this version is a nice touch, especially when added to the all black pipe and different logo.

I mentioned before that I felt the LV looked slow or poser-ish... changed my mind when I seen this one.

The all black LV looks OK.

BTW, I've ordered several things from ali express and have been surprised by the quality. For example I ordered a radiator guard and it looks just as good quality as the Evotech I have on another bike except the ali one cost me $15 shipped.

I ordered the Shark SRC4 in carbon fiber. We'll see how it looks in person. I hoping, really hoping the Shark sticker is removable.

Pretty much every pipe lists a loss of power vs. stock, curious how the SRC4 is in that respect.

I heard a 701 with a Shark one while riding one time and it was pretty decent I guess...

The weldings on the mid pipe look not even so good.
Would be interesting to see some pictures on the Vitpilen and if the muffler is mountable by its own attached to the original cat.

I couldn't find any different pictures than that.

From that pic it doesnt look like it can be used with the stock premuffler as the end can is a slip fitting into the mid pipe.

The only pipe I am familiar with that makes more power on this bike is the Akra that was designed for the Duke. It comes with the OEM-like mid-silencer and is very expensive, but looks very sharp, esp is you get the underfairing back on.

You're referring to full systems with decat, correct?

I think aftermarket silencers(slipons) as long as they're not very short should not cause a power drop. I could be wrong and have not seen any of the dyno charts with regular length slipons and cat still on the bike.

Correct.

Yes, I think the key is to not remove the cat if you replace the exhaust, so just change the silencer. I think power differences will be subtle and you likely will NOT have a power drop of any meaningful difference with a silencer swapout if the cat remains.

FWIW: I've seen Pirate do a test with their cat replacement and silencer swapout compared to the Akra with cat. They had a better low end with their cat while akra had a better mid and topend.

All dyno charts published by pipe makers (who try to sell their pipes!) show fat power loss at some rpm range.

Check it out:

Yup, and even then the differences are small. And don’t believe the LV decat graphs. You’re loosing midrange with a decat pipe on these bikes. The engine needs the volume of the pre-muffler.

(And forget about cheap alibaba copycat stuff)

There are significant variables with dyno runs, so careful with comparisons. Also, did all of those silencer replacement runs have a tune done on them to optimize power, using a PCV or something similar?

I think replacing the silencer and tuning will likely not have much effect on power. Replacing the silencer and not optimizing could (likely) lose power. But I'm not sure the effort and cost is worth it to have a null gain, at best.

The only exhaust I am familiar with that does the job are ones that have a pre-silencer (cat or at least that volume in that location) as well as a freer-flowing silencer. This is the Akra and a silencer using the Pirate Racing premuffler.

If you are replacing the silencer for power gains, it is almost certainly a mistake.

I partially agree with @DWB ,
After having pretty much every pipe on my 401, I gonna stay by my opinion that changing the pipe is definately a performance upgrade.

Every pipe is physically different and must for that reason perform different... it will not make an engine capable of more power, and it is hard to show overall performance on a max throttle dyno comparison.
