The adventure begins!

How many kms have you got on the odo now?
I have done over 3000 kms so far this trip and still have to get back to home. I still have some big journeys ahead.

I will add that the Svartpilen was not really designed for touring. The back seat is small and not many good attachment points for luggage… but you can make it work. For me, i can do long hours on the standard seat without issues. My legs get a bit cramped but i just get off and stretch.

Day 6:
Today was much easier, no baggage and a few hours exploring the beautiful Harz national park, and visiting a famous biker hangout, “Monster Bike Auerhahn” which is on the edge of some impressive curvy roads in the forested park. The whole area is filed with bikers. I tried currywurst for the first time… good!

Recommend that any European bikers should try to visit this area.

Some observations:
Smoking is still quite popular and allowed in public places in Germany. Even inside bars.
Germans are mostly good drivers. 👍🏻 maybe a bit fast 😂
There are not many convenience stores like 7/11 in smaller towns and villages
Petrol is the highest price I’ve experienced in Europe or Asia (obv USA too)
German bikes have to be street legal to a much higher standard than the UK.
Currywurst is a drug.

Today was my penultimate on this trip. After spending a few days catching up with friends and family in Berlin i started the home leg… I just did my longest continuous ride on the 801… 700 kms in one day, that was Berlin to Antwerp. I feel a bit broken after that. Left Berlin early, around 7 AM and by 9:30 it was over 30 degrees. By midday it was approaching 38 on the autobahn and it was like having someone direct a hairdryer on full heat at you, for about 4 hours! I made a lot of stops and ended up soaking my t shirt in cold water to cool myself. When i reached the Netherlands the weather started to cool and then it rained for the last 2 hours! By Antwerp it was a very nice 26 degrees. It was a hard slog, but i made it.

This will be my last post on this thread for a while. I hope others share their trips and adventures.

I’ll finish with this: Can you tour on an 801 with standard seat, standard bars, no luggage rack and a basic duffle bag? And by now you know the answer is YES.
