Here the summarized pics of how an aftermarket Duke 390 (2024+) tail tidy can be adapted to the 801.

What I've done:
A baseplate is added, the mounting angle of the tail tidy (to mount it to the baseplate) is corrected, two new M6 threads are added to the tail tidy to attach it to the baseplate, two M5 screws with nuts (instead of the covered M6 screws) are used at the back to attach the baseplate to the frame; the angle of the registration plate is corrected to about 45°.

I also went this route with the help of Tom. I didn't manage to properly finish it because I didn't have the time (too long bolt here and there, I made a mistake with the mounting of the plate(?), the plate light is not connected yet, and didn't fix rear bolts yet). Also I have the angle less aggressive as Tom did. So not finished yet, but I am very happy so far.

Just noticed; why did you choose a "less agressive angel"?
With the angel that I have chosen, the turn signals are as straight as with the stock 801 licence plate holder.

Because of the licence plate; you could add a thin and very lightweight aluminum composite Dibond plate (that is already black coated); that's what I also did to stabilize the licence plate.

Well firstly I did this angle to ensure there was enough thread to hold the tail tidy in place, (I used the original holes). Secondly, I didn't mill it off (wasn't that easy to clamp into place correctly), I cut it with an angle grinder and grinding the rest. So after a while I was fed up with grinding haha.

The picture you sent is of the 1290? Or you added new bolt holes?

OK understand; with some more proper tools it wouldn't be that much difficult to correct the angle; I did it by milling and additionally with a belt sander.
Yes, the pic above is the 1290 tail tidy; but the composite plate is the same.

I will try to find some time this weekend to perfect mine (keeping the same angle though I think).

By the way, I ordered mine (as we discussed) via Ali. I wouldn't be surprised if the tail tidy came from the same factory after having a close look at your pictures above. The packaging is worse and no instructions, but it's exactly alike.

Hey guys,
Noobie question - is there a trick to taking off the pillion seat? Another latch? Or is it a bolt? Or is it a forceful shove like the 701?
About to install the 390 Ali express tail tidy 😀

Once again Tom swoops in to save the day. Crisis averted. After all the googling I’ve just done in the past hour not once did I think to check the owners manual. 😆 finally took delivery of the bike today so it’s been a mad rush to get all the things installed

😄 Congratulations to the new bike! and have fun with it!
