Sounds strange. My dealer confirmed the 801 months before it was released and now that I ordered one they didn’t ask me to choose colors. I would have chosen black anyway, but still.

I have read from several journals hinting a Vitpilen is coming, but since the Svartpilen has 17”/17” and 150/140mm suspension, I kinda of doubt it.
If there will be a Vit, then surely it won’t have clipons. The Svart is basically a Silverpilen transcending both models, so I don’t see a point of a Vit unless it has clipons. But you never know of course. If there’s a Vit released soon, then hell will brake loose when it doesn’t have clipons.

I’m not going to get a new 801.
It is not a special bike as I believe the 701 Vit & Svartpilen singles are.

That's one big reason I hoped for the 890 engine.Not just early model years. All model years 790 have issues with coolant and oil leaks.
And there are quite a few with camshaft wear issues as well

The 801 Svartpilen just looks a little cobbled together. The spy shots of the Vit look better, cleaner radiator shrouds, 701 looking belly pan, non ribbed seats, lower flatter bars (without the old looking brace) put it out in blue and white and I might be tempted.
But as it doesn't seem significantly different to the Svart, I can't see it getting released into an already crowded market.

I’ve been in contact with Dominator exhausts and they will let me return an exhaust if I buy a Duke 790 exhaust and try it it fits. I have however overlayed pics of the 790 and the 801 and the attachment point doesn’t seem to be in the exact same place. Therefore, I don’t thing a 790 slip on will fit the 801.

The sound from the stock muffler on the 790 I was riding last time, was the only thing I liked about it... so hopefully that did not get lost in the new mix.

I am doing the exact same thing, hopefully they don’t wait too long. I picked up some cheap Brembo m4.32 mono blocks to put on the shelf for whichever one I end up getting..
What differences are you looking for? Might just be different tires, flat bars, belly pan and no windscreen. Pretty easy changes to make.
If the front fender is the same as the prototype we've seen in spy shots I'd prefer that. I'd also prefer a color other than black. The other small things you mentioned I also like so why pay to change them when I could just get the bike that way.
