I was trying to put my finger on what looked so off about the 801 and it reminded me of another bike that I was excited for but also looked off, the triumph 1200 rr. It has to be the forward sloping lines. The 801 tries to combat it with the tank extensions that go forward which I suspect are the only reason they are there but the eye isn’t completely fooled. Especially when compared to the 701.

It is possible to look good with a higher tail but it needs to line up with the headlight like a Ducati 916. I think it’s a by product of all these bikes being based on street fighters with the big shoulder sloping forward look.

Regarding the tank design the line fits with the headlight but as I mentioned in this thread the problem is the seat cowl together with the high tank. There is a feeling of sitting in the bike and not on top of it.

Yeah, that’s why I think they accentuated those bumps that are actually in line. Unfortunately the other lines are all off. I think the problem is if they had lined the seat and tail up they would have had to make a very high seat height which would not have worked. Even my 701vit seat height is pretty high for what the bike is…

I think you have lost me here. If you are talking about classic cafe racer lines, then the bike shouldn’t have anything above the tank, and the rear slightly lower. The 801 has exactly that, except for the bars and the fairing.

There’s a comfort seat that adds 2cm height. If you add that, then you will have very classic cafe lines.

It has to do with the lines of the seat point down and not falling in line with that horizontal line. If you look at the 701 there is a slight angle down but on the 801 it is pronounced like the triumph which makes the tail look like it is angled up and messes with the lines of the bike.
