Why are there 2 different seat pans for the 701?

Can anyone explain why there are 2 different seat pans for the 701? Apparently there is one for North America and one for other countries. Is there a corresponding difference in either the frames or subframes, and why?

I guess that north american riders have big butts and the supporting points of the seat must be on the sides, to support cheeks
