Timing Chain Tension Noise

I'm in the middle of the pirate racing video, He does a good job of the theory on this engine, and the size, hight and bore of 105mm goes a long way with the heat expansion, helps to understand what's going on, and why...
Which exhaust pipe did you go with.? maybe I missed that...

I have the Leo-Vince LV10. Just the pipe.

gzo, how do you find that pipe.? Is it much louder than the stock.? I quite like the look of the stock one, but it would be nice to let out some of the tunes I know are in there :)

The pipe is actually quite nice. It's much shorter and stubbier than the stock one - but quite a bit louder. It's not over the top. It doesn't look as nice as the Akrapovic but it's priced waaaaaay lower. And no need to remove a baffle or anything to get the sound unlike the Akra.
Plenty of vids on youtube.

Anybody here who had attended the Deutch lessions? Is he talking about clutch fluid in engine oil in this video to?

In summary, they had 2 bikes with fried big ends, both bikes had a failed clutch slave in its lifetime ( the second bike had 2 slave failures)
The first bike did not have the oil changed when the slave was replaced.
The second bike it is unknown if the oil was changed when the slave was changed (but probably not)

If you‘ve ever got brake fluid on your greasy hands then you know how well it removes oil. Brake fluid is not something you want to have in the oil. Even if the amount is very small, I would better change the oil. As said before, better save than sorry.

On the other hand failing clutch slave cylinders are so common, that it is not a big coincidence that two failing big end bearings also had done the clutch slave before.

Hello everyone. Hope you are all doing well.
I had a question regarding this supposed well known issue with this engine - timing chain tension noise.
My bike has developed a noise and I can only describe it as a rattling/grinding noise that only happens during cold starts. It doesn't go away immediately, but is pretty much gone when warmed up.
I have read and watched some videos (from Pirate Racing on youtube) regarding this issue but I don't quite understand the whole concept nor am I familiar with what that noise actually sound like. The fix is apparently using a thicker oil which I have just purchased (15W50) but not gotten around to doing just yet.

Does anyone have an actual audio sample of this noise? I can't see to find on youtube the ACTUAL noise for the 701. I wish I recorded it on my bike myself but I wasn't thinking of that at the moment.

For reference, my bike is a 2018. I would have thought this noise would develop just after breaking in. I'm no mechanic.

Would appreciate any help. Thanks!

I have been digging all over for info on chain tensioners, what is normal for sound etc. after a lot of time and work, valve adjustments and swapping out chain tensioner, my sound seems to be better.

This is a very subjective thing. My bike never sounded as bad as what you hear in most videos that showcase the rattling sound; however, every time I put earplugs before starting the bike, I could always hear a little clacking noise on cold starts. The interesting part is that the sound was more noticeable while wearing earplugs.
Long story short, I recently decided to get the tensioner out, drain it, and put it back as suggested in this video. The result, well, I thought the bike did not sound bad before, but after that quick fix, It sounds a lot better than it did before.

thats funny. i recently got some custom molded earplugs, and i now can hear the tapping noise more too. But without earplugs it sounds perfectly fine. My earplugs have built in passive filters to likely isolate frequencies such that the tapping frequencies are no longer muffled out as much. either way, still been riding a bunch and hard and the tapping has remained nice and quiet.

Cheers and thx for sharing your experience!
