Hi all

I’ve held my full motorcycle licence since 1990, so I’ve been riding a wee while. I had a few years away from bikes, but got back into riding in 2019 and have been on a belt-driven cruiser ever since.

I commute daily in Scotland, which basically means riding in the rain most of the time! Belt drives are brilliant for that kind of weather. The year before last I had a loan bike for 7 weeks with a conventional chain, and honestly, the thing deteriorated fast in those conditions. Because of that, I was really reluctant to buy anything without a belt or shaft drive, which narrowed my options considerably. I sold my cruiser and waited for something to come up that i could see myself riding

After about a year of commuting by bus :/ I came across a company I’d somehow never heard of before, despite them being very well known. They make an automatic chain oiler, and their system is even offered as an optional extra on some KTM and BMW models.

That got my attention, so I did a lot of digging and eventually contacted them directly. I asked what real-world daily commuting in Scottish weather would be like on a chain-driven bike fitted with their oiler. They were confident it would cope without issue.

As someone who’s been riding for 36 years — mostly in South Africa — this was genuinely a new concept to me. What surprised me is that none of the reviews or videos I found online really explained just how effective an automatic oiler can be in everyday use.

I’ve always hated the idea of being tied to constant chain maintenance when all I really want to do is ride and enjoy the bike. Since fitting the oiler (and adding a chain guard for a bit of extra protection), my experience has been completely different.

Forums are a great place to share useful real-world experiences, so I thought I’d add my two cents.

P.S. Absolutely loving my Husqvarna Svartpilen 801!
