Thanks for the list! 've been thinking about changing to 14t front. I don't own a torque wrench yet, so I rather wait until I get one for this kind of work, don't want to mess it up... 😅
 
I use a paint pen on the 2 screws after I loctite & torque them down.

Takes 30 seconds more to clean off than the loctite alone, but hey...
...Its a cheap way to buy a bit more peace of mind.

The supersprox steel are lightened, havent been able to purchase a driven or superlight in steel at a reasonable price.

As the weight is done all with the same scale, it should provide good comparison values.

I will continue to update the list as get moe to try.
 
BISavage, the KTM sprockets you list... do you mean that to be the stock "Husky" sprockets?

Also, I havent used an all aluminum sprocket in years... they wore to fast for me in the old days. Are new ones better? They are certainly the lightest...
 
The original Husky ones I ordered came in a KTM box sharing the KTM part number (similar to many parts) so I listed them as such.

Interestingly with the steel ones the tooth design seems to have an impact on wear/performance.

Havent decided yet on the Alu ones.
 
Have you found SuperSprox Steath that don't come from Husqvarna and are NOT orange? Or are all the ones from Supersprox direct orange?
 
Yeah, custom ordered from their page.

Was at my door in less than 2 weeks.

Its a different design that supports 4 and 6 hole bolts patterns (like some older dukes have)

I have been wondering about the polygon effect vs. Weight impact on these particular bikes.

Smaller sprocket weighs less and can use a shorter chain, but also increases polygon effect.

Examples 14/42 vs 15/45 vs 16/48
 
Not so easy to explain...
If you picture the small sprocket as a 14 or 15 or 16 sided polygon, the chain needs to bend around the polygon.
Smaller size can increase wear & vibration, as the angle at which the chain must bend is higher.
And wear & vibration can translate into less "performance".
 
Yes, but at the trade off for more weight.

Which is actually better probably changes at one point depending on speed.

Purely as an example- 14/42 may be the best option from 0-50 mph and then 15/45 is better from 50-100.
 
You have me looking at sprockets too! I'm trying to convince myself to go all aluminum for max weight savings...

Will probably put on an aluminum one once the roads clean up a bit.

One thing to point out is that I have a second rear sprocket mount for the wheel which makes a quick change easy.
 
Check out what I just got a hold of:

Original 45t 390 Adventure Sprocket, and its almost 200g lighter than the stock 'pilen sprocket...

That 390 Adv sprocket looks a lot better too. I plan to replace mine just because I don't like how the original looks. (Gee, the camera flash really shows the dirt!)
