Hello,

I need your help with the following electrical issue(s)

Briefly, I own a 701 Enduro 2024 (EU model). The bike was stored during winter in my garage. temperatures ranging from -5C (very rarely) to + 8C. The bike exterior was winterised and the oil changed prior to storage. The battery was charged every 2nd week, no other mainteinance done to the electrics.
Before starting the bike after winter storage, I have installed a rally tower. After finishing it, during a test ride I have noticed the following issues.

i) Right side indicators flashing twice as fast as left side

ii) Heated grips not working (original grips). These were installed last year and were working up to the winter storage. The switch does not come on at all.

Iii) Clutch switch broke. I don’t know when and how it happened (although have an idea), but I have noticed the metal tongue inside the switch came off the switch itself. I have ordered a replacement.

Once I have noticed the issues, I reopened the tower and noticed the following:

iii) the cables of the clutch switch connectors (starting from the ECU, not the clutch) got pinched. Therefore, I have spliced them shorter. I then used a Testlight to check for power on the positive side of the cable, by connecting the crocodile clamp to the + of the battery and the connector pin connected to the positive cable (yellow) to the tip of the Testlight. Light came on. I also did a continuity test (ignition off) between the positive terminal of the battery and the same pin. There was continuity. However, when testing the ground cable (brown and purple) for the connector pin, I did not get continuity nor light with Testlight (both with performed with ignition off). Where and how would you troubleshoot the issue?

Still not sure how to diagnose the other issues. Any input would be appreciated. As you might understand, I am not very knowledgeable with electrics/electronics but I am trying to educated myself :)

Thanks!!

Hello!

i) after some continuity tests where I isolated the different wires, I concluded it was the indicator itself. so I bought a new OEM and now it all works fine.

ii) Stupid me. prior to removing the stock front light a GPS tracker was wired together with the heated grips. Since the tracker was not working, I have removed it, but then forgot to plug the - of the grips on the - of the ACC2 port 🥴. Now it's connected and obviously works

iii)that's where I still have issues. I removed the broken clutch switch. I then used the wires and the connectors belonging to the dead switch in the following way: connected the connector of the bike side (female) to the connector of the switch (male) of which wires were shorted to simulate a pulled clutch. The bike started no problem. However F3 ECU code is still there. So now I need to troubleshoot that. Any idea? :)

Side stand switch get knocked loose? Was the bike on a crate when the rally tower was installed?

The clutch lock-out switch is only problematic when it's messed with. Usually, it's the small plastic device that gets dropped/lost during disassembly. People don't usually have a piece there, so it's a surprise when they find it. (Or, lose it.) I put a dab of grease on the M/C shaft then "stick" the plastic piece to it. This holds it "in-place" during re-assembly. Hopefully, this is all you need. Good luck, and safe riding!

Thanks for your answer Norty. Eventually I found the solution to all my problems.

iii) I think the last issue was a grounding problem. I previously did not mention the 15A fuse also blew a first time when testing the light and then a second time during my test ride. Then I started being suspicious about possible shorts. I found out the power side of the cable going to into the light group had the insulation worn out at a point. I cut out the broken part, soldered it back and insulated with a heat shrink sleeves.15A fuse stopped blowing up and ECU3 error disappeared. So I suppose the most likely explanation was that damaged insulation was causing a short leading to blown fuse while riding. The fuse did not blow instantly but at different point during riding. Been riding 500 km since mostly gravel/off road and under the rain. No issues since :)

Hey, that's great news. We've heard of the wiring by the neck rubbing/wearing thru, causing problems. Good for you for finding the problem and addressing it. Might want to keep an eye on it, now that you have a location of failure.

absolutely! Will keep an eye on it :) thanks for the help!

It’s crazy how solving issues actually gets you more”attached” to the bike 😅

Hello! It is not obvious this kind of trouble after the winter, especially with the elec. I had the blow of the flashes that flash quickly, it was a poorly connected ground on the right side. For the heated handles, check if the relay or fuse has not blown during the installation of the tower. And for the clutch switch ground, try to trace the wire to a good ground point at the frame. Good luck!
