Vitpilen 701 - Manufacturer oil recommendation

You need 10w for cold start and 50 so that the engine doesnt grind itself away under full load. 10w 50. The problem is that after like 1 hour the 10w50 thins to 10w40 because the transmission chews it apart. With ..w40 you will have xw30 after an hour. Keep in mind: This is a high...

New Svartpilen 401 2023 gas readout question

It was initially different. This came with an Update at one point a few years ago. I understand that it seems less cool that there is a delay, although riding the same bike before/after i still think the delay is an improvement from the initial way it was shown without delay and just plain...

    Countershaft leaking and loose nut

Normally that shouldn't come loose. Would go for a complete chain kit with proper installation. There are a number issues that come to mind, not sure whether any of them would loosen the nut though... ... unevenly lengthened chain, poor wheel alignment, incorrect chain tension, crooked or not...

    Tires and pressures...

Rosso 4 After a bit of testing, 31f / 35r feels pretty good. Vs. the S21, it seems to take one click more Rebound (+) on the front with the Pirelli, may be its due to the tire shape or weight.

    Help! 1974 Husqvarna 400CR (I think?)

Thats looks like a fun project. I would only be able to give the tip: Keep in Mind that making the engine run isnt the same as making it safe to ride.

    Intermittent hesitation around 4K RPM

I would get at least the fuel filter from a KTM / Husky dealer, probably the plug too. Air Filter HFA 6303 - Hiflo Filtro (normally much less expensive) 93006015000 - Original Fuel Filter 93807018000 - Original Plug 93839093000 - Original Bosch 93839091000 - Small Grey Rubber Seal for Plug...

    Twinpilen spotted

Crazy how different opinions can be... I like the "casio watch" - doesn't distract me from riding, and the shift light is easily visible. Hopefully they made the rider ergonomics "better" than the 890 - Having ridden one, that was a top reason not to buy one last time I was in the market...

    Intermittent hesitation around 4K RPM

Have you treid an ECU reset? The 15 minute idle reset thing. If it were me, and I bought a used bike, I would probably change air filter, fuel filter, spark plug and reset the ecu. On the 401 that is like 20 bucks and about 45 minutes if you have a the spark plug socket and a proper torque...

    Engineering Vs. Marketing

That 2023 in the second link has the same Marchesini wheels as the Vitpilen, and most certainly a 160 tire. The first one though, must be 180 Diablo Tire.

    Engineering Vs. Marketing

It definately needs to be a 180. They are running a 5.5 x 17 wheel according to the article. 5.5 inch wheels are for 180 size.

    Coolant Leak

As long as the radiator cap works, and the fluid was not too full than it does point in that direction... is there black carbon inside your cooler?

42t Sprocket Weights for Vitpilen 701, Svartpilen 701, and Duke 690

Heres another one: (I personally prefer the Ognibene) To scale calibration - measured 198g on my scale for a JT Ruberized 15t; similar to @Vatte

And with that we have now established that Pirelli in size 180 will fit with only minor chain abraision marks.

42t Sprocket Weights for Vitpilen 701, Svartpilen 701, and Duke 690

That is also very interesting, not to diverge from chain and sprockets too far into suspension - would expect different weight, from the chain and/or sprocket, to also require different damping settings, similar to different tires.

42t Sprocket Weights for Vitpilen 701, Svartpilen 701, and Duke 690

I edited my question above to include Svartpilen 701. Good point with the tail tidy.

42t Sprocket Weights for Vitpilen 701, Svartpilen 701, and Duke 690

As far as the chain length goes, 112 vs 114 I know generally longer wheelbase is better for straight lines and shorter better for tight turns. Specifically for the Vitpilen / Svartpilen 701, is there a school of thought as to which is better 112 or 114?

42t Sprocket Weights for Vitpilen 701, Svartpilen 701, and Duke 690

Probably could have removed another link, works fine with 114 like it is though. These are the weights of chains I had on this bike, weighed new, on the same scale, with the rivet link and paper/plastic: • 1929g CZ 114L (Stock) • 1815g RK XSO2 114L • 1779g DID VR46 114L • 1922g DID ZVMX 114L...
