Vit and Svart 701 discontinued, buy one while you still can! :-)

They have been planning successor model or a while I think. Maybe with twin cylinder engines? And there have been 501 and 901 rumors too...
This is from an older presentation...

Rumor has it, a Vitpilen 901 (with the Duke 890 engine), but who knows. The above picture is a few years old by now.

If they launch a Vit 901, and it looks similar to what's in that picture, I'm buying one (and keeping the 701 btw).

Better hold on to your bikes, they're becoming museum pieces.

wow the timing is insane. i'm amazed i got to pick up my svart 401 for $3800 flat a month and a half ago haha

as a first (legal) street bike, i couldnt be happier that i've got a limited run model :)) phew, just imagine the resale value!!

Surprisingly, they're pumping out one KTM model after the other, but Husky is going really slow with new models...

@joeinfro this is the 701 model they're discontinuing. No word about the 401, which got actually updated last year.

What is the usual commitment from a manufacturer for parts? Thinking 701 specific fairing, tail lights etc

Thats a good question. Its not a lot of 701s out there to pick spareparts from.

guess it will be custom solutions in cases with broken gas tanks, rear end subframes? and so in the future.

In a way not a problem if the build quality and craftmanship is good.

In the past, as far as I recall, 10 years has been a "moral" period for which spare parts should be available. However, this will depend on many factors such as $$$, the will (or ability) to do this, and perhaps how many original bikes were sold, which will make the demand greater (or less !!), Many parts will be compatible with the KTM "brother" of course.

I never understood how they were able to make the 650 Terra a whopping 40 kgs (~90lbs) heavier than the BMW G650 X challenge...with which it shared roughly the same engine.

I owned both for a while (Strada & X Country). The difference in WET weights was 26kg, still substantial, but the BMW carried 5 litres less fuel, had a very minimalist frame and lightweight subframe and swing-arm. Many other small detail changes continued the light-weigh theme. The X Country (for me) was horrible to ride, the Strada felt much better. I can't comment on parts availability today, but I can tell you that the Strada/Terra are still listed on the MSP (Motorcycle Europe Spare Parts) website, so some parts must still be available....possibly more mechanical than cosmetic.
